Promote the 3rd development engagement of the Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Programme
On 9/3/2022, the task force of experts from the Danish Embassy in Vietnam, Danish Energy Agency, worked with representatives of the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) on the route to implement activities of 3rd development engagement of Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Programme in the period of 2020-2025 (DEPP3 Programme).
Mr. Phương Hoàng Kim, Director General of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department affirmed that the cooperation between parties in the last period has supported actively the building of policies for promoting low carbon development in the industrial sector. Simultaneously, these activities also helped assess the effect of energy use, and implement energy savings activities in some industrial enterprises; then advance the implementing ability of regulations on energy efficiency.
The Director of the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department indicated that DEPP3 would be the new step in the process of energy partnership between two countries
Representative of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department said that at this moment, Vietnam Government has new orienting policies, including activities of promoting changes to low carbon energy sources over time, and net-zero commitment. Therefore, activities of the Programme in the next period also need to attach to Vietnam’s new policy mission.
Representative of Ministry of Industry and Trade asked Danish partner to research, support to propose policies in order to promote the energy service market in Vietnam, such as developing energy audit network, advancing ESCO service enterprises’ ability.
Representative of Danish party, Mr. Ulrik Eversbusch, Director of Global Cooperation Centre (Danish Energy Agency) affirmed that 3rd development engagement, low carbon development in the industrial sector, plays an important role in supporting to implement activities, initiatives advancing compliance level of regulations on energy savings and efficiency, especially at the provincial level. Based on Denmark’s experience, this program will support Vietnam to build mechanisms to encourage economical and efficient use of energy. In Mr. Ulrik Eversbusch’s opinion, all activities will closely follow the actual situation in Vietnam and give suggestions that are in line with the Government’s orientation on low-carbon energy development.
In the future, the Danish Government will approve additional funds for DEPP3 Programme in order to promote energy efficiency activities more in Vietnam. Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department and Danish Energy Agency agreed to continue to coordinate in promoting the activities of 3rd development engagement and develop detailed proposals for some new activities using additional funding for DEPP3.
