MoIT and EuroCham sign Memorandum of Cooperation and promoted sustainable development.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked on October 3 between the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency, under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham).
The MoU paves the way for both sides to carry out trade and investment promotion activities, support enterprises and enhance economic and trade ties in the time ahead.
Also at the event, EuroCham Chairman Alain Cany announced that the EuroCham will host the "Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2022" from November 28 to 30 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The event's primary objective is to support Vietnam in achieving its COP26 commitments and the socio-economic development goals specified in its National Green Growth Strategy for 2021-2030.
The event also aims to support Vietnam’s commitments at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) and the socio-economic development goals specified in its National Green Growth Strategy for the 2021-2030 period.
GEFE 2022 will bring together experts across sustainable business and governance for three days of conferences, exhibitions, and high-level B2B and B2G dialogue sessions, along with EuroCham Vietnam's Green Business Awards and annual Gala Dinner.
The first day of GEFE 2022 will include a plenary conference, which will function as a forum for high-level dialogue between European and Vietnamese government representatives and business stakeholders to coordinate and hold discussions on green policy frameworks, national energy plans, and climate risks.
GEFE 2022's three days will entail panel discussions and seminars on a broad theme, including energy and green financing on the first day, waste and sustainability on the second day, followed by innovation and entrepreneurship on the third and final day. Each day will be further divided into subtopics, covering more than 20 green sector subjects.
The Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2022 will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from November 28 to 30 to promote sustainable development cooperation between Vietnam and the EU via comprehensive dialogues, investment, transfer of expertise and technology, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai.
According to the statistics of the General Department of Customs, during the 12-month implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) from August 1, 2021 to July 2022, trade between Vietnam and the EU hit US$61.4 billion, up 11.9 percent.
In the first seven months of 2022, the EU spent €27.9 billion on imports from Vietnam, a year-on-year increase of 28.8 percent while the bloc's exports to the nation grew by 10.7 percent, reaching €6.9 billion.
The EU is currently the fifth largest investor in Vietnam with the total registered capital worth US$27.6 billion.
In the first eight months of 2022, investors from the EU poured US$2.2 billion in 104 projects in the Southeast Asian nation.
