PM holds talks with Japanese counterpart
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio in Tokyo, Japan on November 24.
Pham, who is on a four-day official visit to Japan, congratulated Kishida on his election as the Prime Minister of Japan, and appreciated Kishida’s contributions to the advancement of the Viet Nam-Japan relations.
Pham conveyed the greetings of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other Vietnamese leaders to the Japanese Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, and other Japanese leaders.
Viet Nam regards Japan as a trusted, important and long-term strategic partner in its foreign policy adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, Pham stressed.
He suggested both countries step up cooperation in a range of areas such as economic connectivity, human resource development, science and technology, supply chain, supporting industry, digital transformation, green growth, innovation, smart urban development, high-tech agriculture, infrastructure development, and climate change adaption.
For his side, Kishida warly welcomed Pham’s official visit to Japan, affirming that the Viet Nam-Japan relationship has developed remarkably in recent years and is a the best stage ever.
Kishida emphasized he attaches special importance to the relationship with Viet Nam and spoke highly of the Southeast Asian country’s socio-economic achievements as well as its increasingly important position and role in the region and the world.
He announced that the Government will donate additional 1.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Viet Nam, raising Japan’s total vaccine donations to 5.6 million doses.
The two leaders agreed to continue fostering security and defense cooperation, especially in transfer of defense equipment and technology, military medicine, cyber security, United Nations peace-keeping participation, improvement of maritime law enforcement, settlement of war consequences.
They agreed to consider resumption of commercial flights and mutual recognition of vaccine passports, step up collaboration in implementing major projects such as the North-South expressway, Hoa Lac High-tech Zone, Viet Nam’s Industrialization Strategy.
The pair agreed to accelerate post COVID-19 cooperation programs using Japan’s official development assistance, focusing on four areas namely transport infrastructure, climate change adaptation, healthcare, and digital transformation.
Both sides agreed to coordinate closely at regional and international forums like ASEAN, Mekong, the United Nations, and tighten collaboration to deal with common challenges of the international community such as climate change, natural disasters, environmental protection,.
The two sides agreed to work closely in implementing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
On the East Sea issue, the two Prime Ministers underlined the importance of maintenance of security and safety of navigation and aviation, settlement of disputes and divergences through peaceful measures on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and early conclusion of an effective, substantial and legally-binding Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
Following the talks, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of 11 cooperative documents between ministries, agencies and businesses of the two countries./.
After the signing ceremony, the two Prime Ministers co-hosted a press briefing to announce the outcomes of their talks.
